About This Project
Create a once-in-a-lifetime celebration to honor this great state’s unique history and extraordinary future.
CM Creative Solution
This project evolved over several years, bringing all of the resources of Corporate Magic to the forefront. Multiple events were designed, each with its own unique set of emotional and intellectual deliverables.
The kick-off event in September ‘07 treated Oklahomans to a special premiere of the official Centennial Anthem, “Oklahoma Rising” during a private concert at Oklahoma City’s Civic Center Music Hall. The event featured the song’s composers; Grammy Award winner Jimmy Webb and two-time CMA Entertainer of the Year Vince Gill, as well as Sandi Patty, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, and Canterbury Choral Society.
Created as a complement to Oklahoma’s famous state song composed by Rodgers and Hammerstein, “Oklahoma Rising” marks the first collaboration between Webb and Gill, both Oklahoma natives. The lyrics of the song celebrate the state’s unique first 100 years and its bright future.
The evening began with a rousing rendition of “Oklahoma!” performed by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and the Ambassador’s Choir. The program included individual performances by Webb, Gill and Patty followed by the debut of “Oklahoma Rising” performed with the Canterbury Choral Society and Ambassador’s Choir. During the hour-long concert, images of Oklahoma’s past and present filled a 30-foot screen above the stage, adding to the excitement of the evening.
In October ’07, the largest parade ever held in the state took place in downtown Oklahoma City. Every aspect was custom designed by Corporate Magic to give tribute to industries and leaders whose contributions pioneered this territory.
The celebration culminated with a spectacular television special created and produced by Corporate Magic. This star-studded salute was shot in front of a live audience of almost 13,000 and included an unprecedented gathering of Oklahoma’s sons and daughters; entertainers, athletes and Miss Americas who have left an indelible mark on this honored state including Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, Amy Grant, and Shirley Jones. The Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Canterbury Choral Society, the All Star Centennial Band and countless more native talent groups accompanied them, all showcased with multi-level staging, HD video production and projection, arresting graphics and emotionally packed videos. It was a fitting finale to a year-long tribute.
